Localized security alerts on your mobile phone, flyers with emergency contacts in university buildings, physical security courses and videos for students. These and other security tools and information for the Palacký University environment are now summarized on the Safe University website. Take a look and help keep UP safe.
The new website is intended for all students and employees at UP, and the security department uses it to summarize everything related to physical security at the university in one place.
"Of course, we also deal with this issue on the Safety Division´s website, but it also includes a range of materials on cyber, information, and counter-influence security, as well as information on personal data protection. The new website, which focuses purely on physical security, will be easily accessible and presents the issues in a clear and comprehensible manner," said Jitka Langová, head of the UP Safety Division.
Introducing the new Safe University website
On the new website bezpecna.upol.cz/en/, visitors will find, for example, Emergency contacts, ten rules for safe behavior in crisis situations, advice on how to communicate in a crisis situation or a simple web form for retrospectively reporting problems and incidents and other practical instructions and informations.
Thematic news items provide information about other initiatives and activities related to crisis management and university preparedness.
Students prepare for crisis situations
How to behave in a crisis or dangerous situation? How to cope with stress and crisis communication? How to communicate with a problematic student or parent? To prepare students for potential crisis situations, UP offers special physical safety courses, some of which are aimed directly at future teachers. Three were planned for the winter semester, with the first having already taken place in the previous academic year.
"We plan to continue with the practical courses because there is a high level of interest among students in this type of training," Langová assured, adding that the dates for the safety courses for the summer semester will be published in the calendar on the website bezpecna.upol.cz/en/.
Videos advise on how to behave in case of imminent danger
A series of three short instructional videos (in Czech) prepared by the university's Safety Division with the support of UP Audio-Visual Productions and in cooperation with the student community advises students on how to behave in case of imminent danger and how to recognize such a threat. They are accessible after logging in with university credentials.
The first video deals with how to behave correctly if you find a suspicious object, the second advises on how to behave if you notice strange behavior in a classmate, and the third video provides brief instructions on how to react if a suspicious person enters the university premises.
UPlikace automatically updates buildings for emergency notifications
In the event of an emergency, the official UPlikace app can send a crisis message to students and staff at UP, targeting a specific building.
With each new semester, the selected buildings are automatically updated and, if necessary, expanded for students and academics according to the schedule in STAG. No buildings are removed. Each user can manually adjust the selected buildings in the settings at any time, i.e., add others or remove those that are no longer relevant to them from the previous semester.
Non-academic employees must manually enter the university buildings they regularly visit in the UP application themselves.
